General Creative Duck Questions
We offer sales on assorted art and school supplies at the start of UO school terms. We hold an Art Tools of the Trade Show every November featuring our biggest sale of the year: 25% off Creative Duck merchandise. The Duck Store also has an annual storewide 20% off sale in early December.

We offer built-in low pricing on many items, including our Everyday Sale items (drafting furniture, easels, and selected art paper), plus a rotating selection of art supplies bargain-priced at $5, $10, and $15. We have Everyday Bulk Discounts on art paper, stationery, Copic & Prismacolor markers, oil pastels, soft pastels, and frames—the more you buy, the more you save.

We also do special promotions throughout the year, including a one-day coupon during our Stop-in-Studio art events. The best way to stay updated on Creative Duck sales is to subscribe to our newsletter, available by e-mail or post.
Although we don't offer a flat UO student or staff discount, we do offer various sales throughout the year, bulk discounts, and many discounted items every day (see above). Creative Duck revenues help make it possible for the Duck Store to give textbook discounts to UO and NCU students.

We offer a 10% discount to elementary school teachers on supplies for use in class (not personal items). Bring your teacher ID to the Creative Duck Customer Service desk to receive a coupon for this discount.

We also give discounts on full boxes of certain items, such as pens, sheet protectors, printer paper, manila envelopes, and transparencies. UO departments receive discounts on bulk quantities of UO imprinted folders. Our buyers can sometimes offer one-time discounts on large quantities of an item, so please inquire at Customer Service.
We sure do! Our expert team of buyers can special order many items beyond those found in the store, whether it's a refill for your favorite pen, an unusual art paper, or a certain paint color.
Absolutely! We have artists on staff who work with a variety of media, and we love to share information and help brainstorm solutions for customers. If we don't know the answer, we'll try to refer you to another resource.
Our biggest event of the year is our annual two-day Art Tools of the Trade Show in November. Customers can watch dozens of artists at work, get in-depth info on the latest art products from knowledgeable sales reps, enter door prize drawings, take advantage of 25% off art supplies plus fabulous show specials, and eat cake!

The Creative Duck hosts scheduled art events called Stop-in-Studios on some Saturdays during the school year. At these free drop-in events, Oregon artists demonstrate diverse techniques and share tips and advice. It's a great way to get inspired and network with the local art community. We also hold informal Saturday art media demos where you can "try before you buy."

HB lead is the same as a #2 pencil; either is correct for scantron test forms.

B leads (B, 2B, 4B, 6B), are softer than HB. Softer leads make a larger, darker mark.

F and H leads (H, 2H, 4H, 6H) are harder than HB. Harder leads make a lighter, finer mark.
Yes, as long as the lead is the right size (usually .3, .5, .7, or .9). However, use HB lead for best results on scantron test forms.
For writing, try a fine ballpoint (such as Staedtler 924) or very fine felt tip pen (such as Pigma Micron 005). For highlighting, try dry highlighters made by Stabilo or Zebrite, or a standard colored pencil. Papers can vary, so test in an inconspicuous place first.
- Drafting lead holders often include a small sharpener built into the button at the back end. Pull off the button to use it as a sharpener.
- Use the canister drafting lead sharpener made by Staedtler.
- Use sandpaper, such as the small pads of sandpaper sold in the drawing supply section.
The Creative Duck carries several options that meet the guidelines for thesis printing, and our customer service staff can assist your selection. Before you buy, please always refer to the most up-to-date guidelines on the

For a quick refill, apply drops from the ink bottle directly to the pen nib. For a complete refill, carefully remove the felt nib (using tweezers or a tissue to avoid staining your fingers) and set it aside. Put the nozzle of the ink bottle into the pen opening and gently squeeze the bottle until the level drops 2-3 marks. Put the nib back in the pen. For more info, see

First, unroll the Vyco (aka Borco) and allow it to flatten overnight under some heavy objects, curled side down. To attach it, just use a strip of double-sided tape along the top edge of the board. Any permanent double-sided tape will work, but Alvin makes a heavy duty tape specifically for this purpose. If you are also using a Mayline parallel rule, the attachment wires will hold down the sides of the Vyco. Having some unattached edges allows the Vyco to "breathe" and flex in response to humidity.
