Guaranteed Reading Materials

The Guaranteed Reading Materials Program ensures a student has a course book or copies of readings the first two weeks of class. The Literary Duck will provide students free photocopied chapters of course book material should we run out of books for that particular class for the first two weeks of Fall, Winter, Spring, Law Fall, Law Spring and the first week for all Summer terms. We also pay for the books to be shipped via 2nd day air delivery so they arrive to the store as quickly as possible. The Guaranteed Reading Materials requires that faculty members order the book on or before the given deadline each term. It is a required course book for a class, and it must be readily available to order from a publisher/distributor/used book company. The Guaranteed Reading Materials is intended for course books only and does not include consumable items (i.e. workbooks, lab manuals) or media aides. Please note: Any book that is an over-seas import, out-of-stock, out-of-print, or printed-on-demand (i.e. a custom text) is not eligible for the program. The Guaranteed Reading Materials is in place for inventory run-out situations only—it does not apply if the original order is late coming from the vendor.

Custom Materials

When ordering custom course materials such as pre-existing books and ancillary items shrink-wrapped together, or print-on-demand, course-specific custom products, please keep in mind that these take extra time to produce. Print-on-demand books can take up to 6 weeks to print. Custom course books need to be ordered by the faculty member as soon as he/she knows their course book will be custom, as well as identifying it as "custom," complete with all the necessary information (i.e. ISBN's, price, etc.) provided to them by the corresponding publisher rep. By placing custom orders early, we can do our part by ensuring that these custom pieces receive the extra processing time necessary to produce and/or collate them. Be aware that ordering custom course books precludes us from being able to order used books for your students. Further, unless the course book will be readopted for a future term, the customer/print-on-demands generally do not have national market value (no value at buyback). Please consider the over-all value of these custom products to your students prior to adopting them.

Keeping Prices Low

It is a reality that the price of course materials is skyrocketing. According to a national survey, the #1 factor that affects a student's perception of the course book cost is how extensively the book is used in class. There are many ways the Campus Duck Store and faculty can work together to lower the overall cost for students. With technology becoming a major factor in academia, publishers are coming up with more ways to market this technology with their course books. Here are a few things we're currently doing at the Campus Duck Store to keep prices low and a few tips for faculty on how to avoid high priced orders.
