The Literary Duck Course Books Floor Map indicates each aisle number and the Course Book Subject Locator lists the aisle on which each subject is shelved.

Buyback Policies
Students may bring their books in to resell to the Campus Duck Store at any time. We buy books 359 days a year. However, for the best prices bring your books in during the scheduled finals buyback. For these dates, please refer to our finals buyback schedules below.
At the end of each term, we buy books needed by the Literary Duck for the upcoming term. At this time, representatives of a national wholesale book company (we use several on a rotating basis) staff the Buyback counter locations. For more information on how we value course books at the end of each term, please review the categories below.
Buyback Locations
The Campus Duck Store finals buyback always takes place for a week and a half, beginning Wednesday of dead week through the Saturday of finals week. You will find the buyback station located upstairs on the Books Floor.
Buyback at the Hamilton Complex takes place for one week during finals week. You will find the buyback station located in the Hamilton lobby.
Law School buyback at the Court Café takes place for one week during finals week. You will find the buyback station located inside the store.
Look Up Current Buyback Value
You can look up the current buyback value of any textbook conveniently online. Simply type in the ISBN located on the back of your book near the barcode and our online system will tell you how much money your book is currently worth. Buyback values do change throughout the year based on demand. For more information on how we value course books at the end of each term, please review the categories below.

Course Book Buyback Categories
Each book brought to us during buyback will fall into one of three categories. The amount of money you receive from your book will depend on the book's current category. Please review the information below for details.
These books will be used for the upcoming term. They are books University of Oregon faculty have requested for the upcoming term and we need to replenish our stock of these books. For books with retail value, we will pay you 50% of the new student discounted price. See example below.
| New Retail Price: | $100 |
|---|---|
| Student Discounted Price: | New: $90.00; Used: $75.00 |
| WE'LL GIVE YOU: | $45.00 |
Books that fall into this category are books that have NOT been requested by the University of Oregon faculty for the upcoming term, or are books we are overstocked on. These books are NOT purchased by the Duck Store. The wholesale company will pay the wholesale market value for these books.
Wholesale market value ranges from 0-33% of the retail price, depending on national demand for the book.
Books that fall into this category are books that have NOT been requested by the University of Oregon faculty for the upcoming term, or are books we are overstocked on. Unfortunately, these books also do not have a wholesale market value. Books that fall into this category tend to be older titles that have gone out of print, have been replaced by a newer edition, or are not commonly used on campuses across the nation (local titles).
Neither the Duck Store or the wholesale company need these titles, and therefore cannot pay any money for them. We can recycle or donate these books at your request.
Awards Program
What is the Awards Program and how did it start?
Since 1920, the Duck Store has been owned collectively by the students, faculty and classified staff of the University of Oregon. That's right! We aren't owned by the University; YOU are an owner of the Duck Store. We're here to work for you.
In 2003, the Duck Store Board of Directors, comprised of eight students, two faculty and one classified staff member, made the decision to award 25 students their required course books or art/architecture supplies for free (up to $400).
How does the Awards Program work?
During the first few days of each term, the Duck Store selects 25 students at random times and at randomly selected cash registers. There is a flurry of noise and celebration when each award winner is selected.
Once selected, the person is asked to provide a current class list so we can pay for required course books, or syllabus with a list of required art/architecture supplies. If the person has already purchased some of his/her required books or supplies the Duck Store will reimburse them.
Quacking Back
The Board wants all students to know the Duck Store realizes going to school in general and buying couse books in particular is expensive. While only twenty-five students will receive these awards, the Board wants students to know their Duck Store is working hard to keep prices as low as possible.
The Duck Store tries to get as many used books as possible and is one of but a few college bookstores that discounts its prices from the publisher's list price. Last year, the book discount amounted to over $1,000,000 in savings to students.
Course Materials FAQ
Is there a discount on textbooks?
Yes; all new textbooks/course materials are discounted 10%, and the discount is built in to the price you see on the shelf tag. Used books are 25% less than the new discounted price. Also, watch for special, extra-low pricing on some older editions, and we always encourage you to compare our prices with others online retailers before you buy.
What if my book is not on the shelf?
Please ask at the Information Kiosk. If your book is sold out, you may place a special order with us, and we'll order it to arrive via 2-day air, at not extra cost. It's always good to ask our friendly team members, as the book may be in a different location.
My Guaranteed Book isn't here; what's up with that?
Books from our Guaranteed Reading Materials Program can be special ordered at the Information Kiosk (they must be prepaid), and copies of necessary readings will be provided to you within 24 to 48 hours. We'll let you know when the book arrives, and then you can return the copies to us.
What is your returns policy?
During the first two weeks of a term (other than Summer), all books and course materials are fully returnable with your original receipt and in original condition.
It's late in the term, and my books aren't on the shelf anymore. Are they gone?
Not necessarily. We are probably processing the books for return to vendors, and they are likely still in the building, so please ask at the Information Kiosk, and our friendly team members will be glad to retrieve it for you.
Will I get money back for all my books at buyback?
The Duck Store buys books all year round, and the best prices are generally paid during finals week, when we are buying the most books back for use at UO. For those titles, you'll get the most money back: up to 50% of the new price, even if you bought it used—and the more of these we can buy from students, the more used books we can offer to students next term. When a book is not being used next term, we can offer the wholesale price, which is its national wholesale value—usually a smaller percentage of what you paid. You can conveniently check buyback prices anytime at our website.

Do you offer alternatives to buying my textbooks & course materials?
Yes, we offer online textbook rentals; just click the link on our website. Our online rental partner offers free shipping both ways, and competitive pricing with other online rentals. We also offer downloadable digital textbooks (e-books) for many titles, and we donate many of the more expensive books to the Knight Library reserve book room, so that students can study from them there.

What if I need to cancel or change my online order?
If you need to cancel or change your order (add/drop classes or books, etc…), please contact Melissa Roush in the Literary Duck at (541) 346-9447 or roush@uoregon.edu .
What is the deadline for placing an online order?
Deadlines vary from term to term. Usually, the last day to order course materials is 1-2 weeks before the term starts so that we have time to process your order. We recommend that you place your order as soon as you know your schedule for the next term. Course material reservations open the same day that class registration begins.
After I placed an order online a charge appeared on my account that was not what I expected. Have I prepaid/been overcharged for my books?
Once an online order is placed, an estimation of the order total is sent to your bank/card carrier. It is a 'pending charge' and will drop from your account within a few business days. At the time your order is physically processed by the Literary Duck staff, your order will be charged the actual, full amount for your course materials. If you have any questions or concerns about this matter, please contact Melissa Roush at (541) 346-9447 or at roush@uoregon.edu .
What is the difference between new/used preferred and new/used only when I am selecting my textbook preferences?
If you select new/used preferred when you order your course materials, you are indicating that you prefer to have either a new copy of a course book or a used copy of a course book, but will accept the alternative if your preference is unavailable. For example, if you select used preferred for a textbook but it is only available at The Duck Store as new, we will process a new copy for you.
If you select new/used only, we will only pull a new or used copy of your textbook depending on which option you chose. For example, if you select used only for a particular textbook, and we only have new available, you will not receive the book in your order.
When will my Course Material Reservation be ready?
Online reservations are processed 1-2 weeks before the start of each term. This allows us time to ensure that most, if not all, of your course books are available. If you are placing your course material order after the term has already started, we reserve 48 hours time to process and complete your order.
Why can't I add books to my cart? What do I do if I can't order my books online?
We have to close course material reservations before the start of every term so that we have time to process and complete all of the orders that we have. If you missed the deadline for placing your course materials order, you can still purchase your books in The Duck Store—just bring in your book list and the Literary Duck staff can help you locate your books in the store.

General Books FAQ
Do I get a discount?
Students, staff and faculty of the University of Oregon receive a 10% discount, which is taken at the register, on all regularly priced General Books. A special 25% discount (also taken at the register) is given to all our customers on all titles currently listed on the Independent Booksellers' Bestsellers Lists, which are updated weekly. 25% is also taken off of titles found in our Staff Favorites section. In addition, we offer special discounts at various times of the year on different types of books, as well as offering coupons for limited times.
How long do I have to return a General Book?
As long as it is in new condition and the customer has a receipt, the book may be returned for a full refund within ninety days of the original purchase.
Can I order a book?
In most cases, the answer is "yes." However, if we cannot order a book for a customer, we can provide information that will help you find alternative ways of getting a book.
How long will it take for my Special Order book to arrive?
This depends on which vendor we order the book from. Most books can be gotten in 24 to 48 hours from our distributor in Roseburg. Our distributor in Reno requires about a week for delivery, and the Nashville warehouse requires a week and a half. If we have to go directly to the publisher for the book, we usually ask customers to allow two weeks for delivery.
Do I have to pay for shipping on my special order?
No. There is no additional fee for placing a special order.
Do I have to buy a book that I order?
We appreciate it if you only special order books that you intend to buy from us.
How often does the selection for Staff Favorites change?
We are constantly bringing in titles to recommend to our customers as we read new things that we love. Titles that sell well tend to stay on Staff Favorites the longest, while slower moving titles rotate out to make room for new favorites.
