Buying Books In Store
Print your book list
Bring your book list into the Literary Duck with you when you come to the Campus Duck Store to purchase your course books so you know exactly which books you need. Get your book list conveniently online.
Log on to the appropriate online Course Materials system:
Simply enter in your course information and print out the generated list. Use your book list as a reference when you come to the store to save time!
Find your way
The course books department can get pretty crowded at the beginning of each term when students flock to the store to pick up their books. For your convenience, you can download a Literary Duck Course Books Floor PDF Map along with a Course Book Subject Locator directly from our website and use it when you come to purchase your books during rush!
The Literary Duck Course Books Floor Map indicates each aisle number and the Course Book Subject Locator lists the aisle on which each subject is shelved.
Ask questions
The Campus Duck Store Literary Duck staff understands how stressful buying books can be, especially for new students and transfers. We are here to help make this experience as painless and easy as possible. If you have any questions, don't be afraid to pull aside a team member and ask! During the first week of classes, you can easily identify our team by our green Text Guide vests. You can also visit the Information Kiosk in the middle of the Literary Duck floor for more information.
Save your receipt
In order to return or exchange any unneeded books, you must have your receipt. Keep your receipt in a safe place. Make sure not to stash your receipt inside any of your books; if they were to be stolen with the receipt, the thief could easily return the book for a full refund and walk away with your cash! Books can be returned for a full refund two weeks after the term begins. After that, they can be saved and sold during our buyback period (no receipt is needed for buyback).
Students who are looking for an alternate to purchasing text books can opt to rent their text books for the quarter. The overall cost of your rental is determined by the rental period. It's a quick and easy way to save some money up front. To rent your text books:
- Navigate to the Online Course Material resources section of our website. You can access this by using the Shop > Literary Duck drop down option from the top navigation or by visiting literaryduck.uoduckstore.com .
- Go to the Student Resources tab and click on the Rental Program link in the left hand navigation.
- Enter the ISBN of the text books you wish to rent.
- Select your rental period and add your book to the cart.
- Complete the easy checkout process and wait for your rental book to arrive!
Returns + Refunds
General information
The majority of all returns are handled during the first two weeks of every term. We know mistakes happen during the hectic book buying process and so we try to do everything we can to make returning your text book as easy as possible. Here are a few tips to make returning or exchanging course books easier.
Save your receipt
You must save your receipt in order to return your book. If you bring in your book with the receipt, we will give you a full cash refund or credit your card, whichever method of payment you originally used to purchase your books.
Keep your receipt in a safe place. Make sure not to stash your receipt inside any of your books; if they were to be stolen with the receipt, the thief could easily return the book for a full refund and walk away with your cash!
Know your returns period & deadlines
The Campus Duck Store will give you a full cash or credit card refund if the book is returned within the first two weeks of the term. After this period, we evaluate individual return requests based on circumstances beyond a student's control; otherwise, you can sell your book back to the Campus Duck Store during finals buyback. The best times to sell you books back are always during finals buyback, scheduled just before the end of every term.
Selling Your Books
Sell your books during finals buyback
Students may bring their books in to resell to the Campus Duck Store at any time. We buy books 359 days a year. However, for the best prices and buyback dates, visit uoduckstore.com/literaryduck/ . At this time, representatives of a national wholesale book company (we use several on a rotating basis) staff the Buyback counter locations.
Save more money when you buy used books
If the University of Oregon is using your course book on our campus the following term, the Duck Store we will pay you 50% of the new student discounted price regardless of whether you initially purchased the course book new or used.
For example, if a course book is originally $100, the Campus Duck Store will base all buyback prices on the $90 discounted student price. A student who purchased the book new for $90 will receive $45 during buyback; a student who purchased the book used for $75 will also receive $45 during buyback. Overall, the student with the used text saved $15 more than the student who purchased the book new.
How buyback works and how prices are determined
You will not always receive half of the current student retail price for your books. Buyback is based on demand; if there is no demand for a particular course book or edition, the value of the book will decrease or be obsolete entirely.
Our staff has no control over how much money you will receive for selling your books. They simply look up the value of your book on our computer system, verifying that the book will still be needed the following term. If the book is not needed by our University, we can sell it to a national wholesale company who will then redistribute the text. If this is the case, we will give you back the current national market value. This percentage ranges from 0-33%. If a book has gone out of print, been replaced by a newer edition, or is not commonly used on campuses across the nation, it is considered "no value" and we are unable to buy it.

Preparing For Graduation
Complete your graduation application early
All students need to file a graduation application online at DuckWeb in order to graduate from the University. You can find the deadline for the graduation application in the Academic Calendar of the Schedule of Classes. Applications received by the priority deadline are processed early and these students will be notified of degree progress before the next term's registration.
While applications are accepted through the end of the second week of classes in the term of anticipated graduation, it is a good idea for students to complete DuckWeb's online graduation application by the end of the second week of classes in the term preceding the term of anticipated graduation. By filling out this form a term early, you will receive priority processing; advance notice permits early review of degree requirements and notification of insufficiencies in general-education requirements. You will receive this notice prior to the following term's registration, allowing you to adjust your final term schedule to fill any needed gaps and ensure completion of all requirements.
Get your graduation package at The Duck Store
The Campus Duck Store offers students a wide variety of Graduation Packages to help put together the odds and ends you need for graduation. Packages range from the bare graduation necessities to complete packages including Grad announcements, thank-you notes and return address labels. Whatever your needs are for graduation, the Campus Duck Store has an option for you!

How do I take care of my gown?
The easiest way to get great looking regalia is to take it to a dry cleaner and have them press or steam it.
Do-It-Yourself Instructions
Hang your gown up as soon as you get it home. You may be able to get the wrinkles out by hanging your gown in a very steamy bathroom. Steaming the gown with a steamer is also acceptable. Gowns can be ironed but use extreme caution! You must use a very low heat. You may have better success if you use a lightweight cloth (like a tea towel) between the iron and the gown. The gown will melt if too much heat is used. Do not put the gown into a hot dryer as this can also melt the gown.
